PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

David Demarest brings more than 40 years of strategic and operational legal experience in high technology medical device and biopharmaceutical industries to his role as Synergy Med’s chief legal advisor.

Mr. Demarest has served as senior counsel to several fortune 100 pharmaceutical companies where he was responsible for directing programs and negotiating agreements to integrating a broad range of innovative, biologic and other drugs into and specialized medical devices as unique combination products. He has also played key roles in major acquisitions and divestitures in the medical industry and has managed legal aspects of several of global healthcare in India, Japan and Israel.

Mr. Demarest began his legal medical career when he joined Baxter World Trade Corporation in the mid-1980’s, serving for some 15 years on extended expatriate assignments in Brussels, Tokyo and Singapore, eventually becoming Assistant General Counsel, Far East.

He subsequently worked in private practice for the firm of Preston, Gates & Ellis in Los Angeles and Seattle, where he advised a variety of clients on foreign & domestic biotechnology investment projects, aerospace cooperation programs between US satellite manufacturers and Chinese space launch agencies. He also played a major role as part of a legal team defending Microsoft in the Department of Justice Antitrust case.

Since 2007, Mr. Demarest has served as senior counsel to a major pharmaceutical company in the Chicago area where has lead initiatives in pharma contract manufacturing, global expansion of biosimilar products and US FDA compliance operations. Immediately prior to that, he served a 3-year assignment at the United Nations Secretariat as Special Representative to the Secretary General, where he successfully prosecuted cases of fraud and abuse within the organization.

Mr. Demarest earned his bachelor degree (A.B., cum laude) in international relations and French language/international relations from Colgate University, his JD degree from McGill University Faculty of Law and an LLM degree in foreign and comparative law from Harvard Law School. He speaks a number of foreign languages, including French and Japanese.
